چکیده

2014 Three types of short-time measurements using temporally incoherent light instead of short pulses are described. Electronic dephasing in a polydiacetylene film, vibrational dephasing in dimethylsulfoxide liquid, and relaxation of optical Kerr effect in CS2 and nitrobenzene were observed with femtosecond time resolution. Ultrafast Processes in Semiconductors: Coherent Polarizations Carrier Dynamics

Understanding the relationship between structure and function represents a central issue of basic materials research. Fundamental physical, chemical and/or biological properties and functions of materials are determined by the dynamics of elementary excitations in the ultrafast time domain, i.e. between 1 fs (1 femtosecond = 10 s) and approximately 1 ps ( 1 picosecond = 10 s). Such nonequilibri...

Nonlinear spin relaxation in strongly nonequilibrium magnets

A general theory is developed for describing the nonlinear relaxation of spin systems from a strongly nonequilibrium initial state, when, in addition, the sample is coupled to a resonator. Such processes are characterized by nonlinear stochastic differential equations. This makes these strongly nonequilibrium processes principally different from the spin relaxation close to an equilibrium state...

Ultrafast Spectroscopy of Carbon Nanotubes

Time-domain spectroscopic studies provide a unique perspective on the materials properties and the microscopic processes underlying them in carbon nanotubes. Ultrafast spectroscopy is used to study the dynamics and kinetics of scattering and relaxation processes from the femtosecond (1 fs ≡ 10−15 s) to the picosecond timescale. This provides crucial information on carrier and exciton dynamics t...

Dynamics of plasma formation, relaxation, and topography modification induced by femtosecond laser pulses in crystalline and amorphous dielectrics

We have studied plasma formation and relaxation dynamics along with the corresponding topography modifications in fused silica and sapphire induced by single femtosecond laser pulses (800 nm and 120 fs). These materials, representative of high bandgap amorphous and crystalline dielectrics, respectively, require nonlinear mechanisms to absorb the laser light. The study employed a femtosecond tim...

Time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy by the optical Kerr-gate method applicable to ultrafast relaxation processes

We have developed a femtosecond time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy by the optical Kerr-gate ~OKG! method to investigate ultrafast carrier dynamics and relaxation processes of materials. Solid glasses with a high nonlinear refractive index were used as the Kerr media to obtain a subpicosecond time resolution. When a quartz plate was used as the Kerr medium, the Kerr efficiency and the instr...
